GAYAGEUM | Joo Mak | Ju Shin Jung

Finally here to share my favorite korean restaurant!
I love it so much that after the first time there, I craved for it everyday after thus I've gone 4 days in the same week  >.< I've brought friends and my boyf there and they all like/love the food.

First day, I tried the saba kimchi soup, if you love soup with strong flavours, you will love this like I did! But the saba was a little too fishy unless you are a fish lover. The dobokki (rice cake) has a mild chilli taste suitable for our palettes and is soft & not crazy chewy. Each order of meat or soup comes with 6 side dishes, I love all the cucumber dishes! Koreans like to make pickled cucumber & I'm always amazed at how sour yet fresh it can taste at the same time. Every time I went, I asked for top up for cucumbers at least 3 times. We tried the sweet fried chicken, sweet chicken has always been too funky for me though. And the beef, omg the beef, the sauce is so good, it's sweet due to stir frying with vegetables, the onions are thus caramelized! I ordered this dish for 3 consecutive days & it really tastes awesome as a dip for ginseng chicken.

Second day, my friend ordered ginseng chicken soup. It comes with sea salt for the chicken to dip into, I thought the dish was calming haha.. and light, soup was pretty good. And we chose the normal kimchi soup which tasted..very light too, but the veggies soaked inside were melt-in-my-mouth goodness. I'll take strong soups over light ones anyday!

Third day, we chose spicy tofu soup, it is not that spicy actually. And perfect for people who loves eggs and tofu, it was comfort food to us.

The lighting is good for photography too, best part is you won't walk out of the restaurant smelling like other peoples' bbq meat.

Fourth day, Mike was back from Sydney so I brought him to try. He ordered army stew to share, I was starving, only realised I didn't take pictures after we finished everything. It is $27 for small if I remembered correctly, enough for 2. Even though the pot looks really small & have little ingredients compared to the one we had at Joo Mak (picture below) , it was actually a perfect size for the both of us. Hands down the best soup I ever had with free refill ^^

I would recommend the army stew at Joo Mak for bigger groups though! They have more ingredients and dobokki inside & some side dishes that are pretty sick too.

A few days ago, Mike brought me to Ju Sing Jung for korean bbq. Don't order the beef, I think it is worth it to pay more for the prime beef like the wagyu we had that was perfect marbled beef. The marinated pork is the best pork I ever had in my entire life, it is soft and tender and I almost forgot I was eating pork and not beef when chewing on it! Their bbq menu is small as they only offer 6 kinds of meat and each person gets to choose a soup or noodle. Their soup is tasty but comes in a small portion and generally the bill is not cheap with the service of staff grilling your meat for you. Our bill was over $100 with the add on of the premium beef so be prepared to spend!

They will also bombard you with a crazy amount of side dishes so you end up struggling to finish them, some are nonsensical like 4 plates of veggies.

(My favourite) Ga Ya Geum - Bukit Timah Shopping Centre B2-14
(Army stew) Joo Mak - Beauty World Centre #04-01

These 2 malls are beside each other btw

(Korean bbq) Ju Sing Jung - 1018 East Coast Parkway

Enjoy munching~
